Galations 1:10 (NLT) Obviously, I'm not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ's servant.
Wow! Paul the apostle lays it all out there. As long as he knows that he is doing what God wants him to do, it doesn't matter to him if he is "liked" or not.
This is really hard for me. I am a people pleaser. I like to know that everyone around me is happy and I like to play a part in making them happy. But, I cannot be a "people pleaser" and do God's will at the same time. Life is full of choices. Do I want the approval and happiness of the people around me; or do I wan the approval and happiness of the God who died for me; the God whom I have to account to for all eternity?
Now I'm not saying that Jesus wants us to be rude and insensitive. We should make an effort to keep from hurting the feelings of people, but not at the expense of our call to spread the Gospel.
If you have to choose between hurting someone's feelings and doing the will of God, choose the will of God.
